Hi, I am Kathleen Tay.
A student from the Diploma of Food, Nutrition & Culinary Science (FNC). I have been passionate about culinary since I was in secondary school. I also became interested about plant-based when I was 16 years old. Currently, I am just gaining knowledge and experience of plant-based and also the environment. Hence, I was so excited when I heard about the ProVeg Challenge.
Introduction to background information on my Learning Project
My Learning Project is about me participating in a food competition, with two other friends. The competition is called, ProVeg Food Innovation Challenge (Asean region) competition. We were tasked to develop and advocacy plan, using the approach of influencing the influencers, in order to replace the consumption of animal-based products with plant-based options. We decided to influence our school Temasek Polytechnic (TP) first. Our project is a 1 year plan, our overall concept is target school canteens and promoting plant-based through social media and TP Oei. I decided to work with the Food Interest Group (FIG), the interest group in the Diploma in I am in, FNC. We collaborated on starting the Be Green Series and organising a plant-based cooking competition with them. I also created two videos, one is the environmental video and the other is a plant-based recipe video.
Introduction to Guided Learning subject
Guided Learning:
It is a module that under the type of TP-Fundamentals which are modules that students have to take during the course of study in Temasek Polytechnic (TP). Guided Learning (GL) is provided to TP students in place of Global Studies 2. It is a self-directed module, where students complete their project based on the TP 4 step self-directed learning process, Plan, Perform, Monitor and Reflect. Students are given a chance to do anything they would like to learn regardless of their course.
They will first have to submit a proposal, for it to be approved by officers. Then, they are given a facilitator which will guide them along the journey and provided needed feedback on the student's project. Students are required to meet their facilitators for a minimum of four times of which represents the four stages.
Students have to edit their submitted proposal and submit a refined proposal. They also have to do up and submit a learning contract which further explains the requirements of their projects and the timeline of their project. To end off, they are tasked to create and present an e-portfolio of their project. They need to include what their projects is about, what they have learnt throughout their journey from the project and also include documents such as their approved proposal, refined proposal, learning contract and learning logs. They will then use this e-portfolio, to have a presentation to share their learnings from the project and what has been done.
