INITIAL IDEAS FOR ENVIRONMENTAL VIDEO (VERSION 3)

FINAL VERSION OF SCRIPT FOR  ENVIRONMENTAL VIDEO

Reflection for the Environmental Video:
I have always known that going plant-based will definitely help reduce the effects of climate change which was why I decided to do this video to show others the benefits of going plant-based.

As it was my first time editing a video, I was ensure of where or what to begin with. However, I knew of the components that was needed such as the script and a plot. I did not think of using a storyboard until Mdm Petrina, our faciliatator for the competition gave me a sample of how I can arrange the script and slides which was very beneficial. Then, I started on working on the plot of the video. At first, we brainstormed some visual idea such as using food to portray how the climate change is happening in Singapore and around the world. However, we did not do that as we wanted to use Milo Dinosaur and it was a company name. Hence, we scratched that idea. I was thinking we can also do it as an animation where we travel to different parts of the world to see how Climate Change has impacted all of us. We did not do this as an animation might seem childish. However, we did keep the concept it showcasing the effects of climate change around the world.

Afterwards, I started with the script before doing the slides as it will be easier to imagine with the words in mind.  Then I though of how it will be impactful to have the slides to showcase the words climate change in sync to the audio. Afterwards, we sourced for impacts of climate change in Singapore to make the content more relatable since we have only heard the overview but not specifically our home. Afterwards, as we want to include other South East Asian countries, we sourced for the effects and managed to find many. I researched on how going plant-based can benefit the environment. I showed it through the use of infographic which is easier for others to comprehend as compared to audio.

The editing of the video was not that completed as I had different scenes and labelled each clip with the scene. However, there were also some complicated situation such as the background noise coming from the voice over and also having the adjust the audio as some clips sound soft. I had a video idea in mind. However, the transition from the slides to the video was also tough as I have to decide where I was going to show the slides. I also have to consider on linking the audio together was quite frustrating at times since I was new to using Adobe Premium Rush. It was definitely enjoyable as it was such an amazing feeling when I completed the editing. I also gained a skill on using the software which can help me to edit video in the future.

Trial 1 for Tofu Cheesecake

Reflections:
I learnt that the cheesecake was baked at a too high temperature which lead to some cracks and also having a water bath is important. I also learnt to not put in lemon for the plain flavoured based, as it was too overpowering when it is in the peanut butter and oreo one. I also learn that it is not advisable to bake the oreo, as the texture becomes off and not appetizing. Having a proper mould and equipment were important as I did not have the correct mould, I was not satisfied with the outcome as it did not look tasty. But overall, the cheesecake did set and other than the oreo which had a grainy mouthfeel, the others had a smooth mouthfeel.

Trial 2 for Tofu Cheesecake

Vanilla Tofu Cheesecake

Lemon and Lime Cheesecake

Peanut Butter Cheesecake

Reflections: After getting feedback from Chef Gary, we alter the recipe slightly and have decided to omit the lemon juice in the vanilla tofu cheesecake as it was quite a strong taste. There was also a creation of a new flavour of lemon and lime cheesecake. I decided to not do the Oreo flavour as I feel that the Oreo did not bake well and it did not like visually appealing as compared to the other flavours. It was decided to keep the peanut butter flavour as it was quite delicious and the colour looks appetizing. Additionally, to add a texture contrast, crushed peanuts were added as a smooth peanut butter was used. I got some of  my friends to taste the finished products and they did not know it was vegan and they had different favorite flavours among the three that was created.

Final Trial Tofu Cheesecake

Reflections:

The outcome of the cheesecake was the same as the second trial which was good. The cheesecake was well set. However, we decided to change the peanut butter to a better brand, which resulted in the cheesecake having a darker colour as compared to the second trial. This made me learn that changes ingredients changes the outcome of the product. This to me was quite interesting as we do not learn about this during theory where only by having different trial, we will notice these differences. I also decided to do a third trial as the second trial was more of editing the recipe to make the cheesecake more pleasing to the eyes and also tasty. The third trial was to film the process of the making while also incorporating some clips from trial 2. After gathering all the video clips I needed, I used different software such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Vllo and iMovie. At first, I used Adobe Premiere Pro to get the layout of the video and edit mostly from here. It was tough at first having to find the different clips but I has some trial and error and eventually managed to do it. I used iMovie to add the recipe steps and also experimented at this part as it was important to get the timing right to ensure that the text can be seen and also readable. I was able to make the video more fun and chill which was the vibe I was going for when planning this video. I used vllo to insert a background music as they offered free background music. I initially chose another music and showed it to my friends but they said the music choice does not really fit the video. Hence, I decided to change the music and it was more suitable.

Reflection

At first it was not easy for me to design the poster as I did not have prior experience, hence the first version was not as eye catching. After consulting with FIG's publicity team and my team mates. They provided me some advice and what I can include or change. For example compiling the information into one or two short sentences and including more visual so it is easier to understand and read.

Reflection

I have learnt that even though I kind of know the gist of coming up with a proposal but then I realized how hard it is when I had to rely on myself to do everything as compared to doing it in a team with another person. It took some motivation and receiving feedback from different people such as FIG, my teammates and Mr Cedric, my GL facilitator. I continue and think of how I want the competition to be and eventually ended up with a Plant-Based Challenge. I have learnt on the importance of communication as it was important to receive feedback to make this a better competition. I learn to be discipline and finish what I have started. After having an experience in the poster designing for the Be Green Series, it was still a bit difficult in designing an eye-catching poster, as this was another kind of poster which had more information and I was unsure of what information include. However, I asked the FIG's publicity team and my team mates for advice. I have learnt from them that it is important to have a a eye-catching cover page. It is better to keep the content simple and easy to understand. It is also important to put in elements such as the prizes that will attract the students to participate.
